Dataport was formed on January 1, 2004, through the merger of the Schleswig-Holstein Data Center (DZ-SH) with the State Office for Information Technology (LIT) and the Department of Information and Communication Technology of the Senate Office for District Affairs.
On January 1, 2006, the states of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (only with its tax administration) and Bremen joined Dataport. As of January 1, 2010, Lower Saxony also became a member state of Dataport and has since had its tax administration managed by Dataport.
As of January 1, 2012, the municipalities of Schleswig-Holstein also became members of Dataport through their IT association, IT-Verbund Schleswig-Holstein. This was followed in February 2014 by Saxony-Anhalt’s accession to the Dataport State Treaty, effective retroactively as of January 1, 2013.
