In our store in Artilleriestraße, you can experience our natural building materials and furniture up close and with all your senses. This is particularly important to us, because the warmth and comfort of a solid wood floor or the sound insulation of cellulose insulation are difficult to convey on the Internet.
Walk on, touch and feel floor coverings from oak to cork in our flooring area. Find out more about the different types of wood and installation methods and feel how good an oiled and waxed parquet floor feels.
In our world of paints, we show you the different textures, effects and shades of clay plaster, lime paints, varnishes and other systems. Let us show you the exciting clay-based decorative plasters or find out more about the multi-talented lime with its mold protection function.
Our sleep studio presents fantastic beds, mattresses, pillows and bed linen – naturally healthy and ecological. We also have back-friendly seating throughout the store, including for children and teenagers.

More than just a building materials store.
Wooden floors, natural paints, lime plaster, cellulose insulation… trading in natural building materials is the basis of our work. But we can do much more than that. Our holistic approach also includes providing information about our products and their active processing.
We are also a craft business that builds, renovates or refurbishes with precisely these materials. We have already completed numerous exciting projects, from countless ecological renovations of old buildings (e.g. the Allerhaus) to the new construction of an entire housing estate or the first office building in straw bale construction in Germany.
Our teams lay parquet floors, plaster, insulate or paint. We are certified passive house craftsmen, master carpenters, master painters, clay construction specialists and much more. And if we can't do something, we bring in partner companies from our strong network. In this way, we prove every day what is possible with ecological building materials and bring our experience back to our Biber store.
Our strengths therefore also include first-class advice. We know everything about our range, know the ingredients and the manufacturers, are constantly training ourselves and have tested every product ourselves. We have very strict criteria when selecting our range and distance ourselves from any kind of greenwashing, which is unfortunately becoming increasingly common these days.
Our knowledge on the subject of ecological building should not just remain in our offices. We want to create a transfer of knowledge that brings "our" topic closer to a broader public. That is why we are involved in various initiatives, associations and networks, give lectures (from the adult education center to the G7 conference) and provide detailed viewing materials, calculation examples and collections of knowledge free of charge as brochures in our store or on our website.
With these and many other activities, we want to promote the use of ecological building materials and make a contribution to environmental and climate protection through our actions.

Networking is an important part of our work. We are involved in numerous initiatives and associations and thus benefit from a lively exchange, good contacts and continuous further training. In 2013, we were awarded the creative prize of the Mittelstandsverbund in Berlin for our creative networking work. We are active here:
ÖkoPlus.
We have been part of the ÖkoPlus family since 2009. ÖkoPlus is the interest group for ecological building and living in Germany. Over 30 dealers from all over Germany now belong to the community – and the trend is rising. In addition to the retailers, there are over 30 manufacturers of natural building materials in the association who, as cooperation partners, make a major contribution to financing the association.
One of the most important benefits of ÖkoPlus membership for us is the contact and transfer of knowledge between members. We exchange ideas intensively at the annual general meeting or at regional group meetings. We visit other specialist stores, gain an insight into the strategies and figures of our colleagues and thus receive new impetus for our work. Our own strengths and challenges can be better classified and tackled in direct comparison with companies from the same sector.
As a service for our members, the Frankfurt ÖkoPlus head office also organizes training courses and seminars at which we and our employees receive further training. We can also take advantage of individual consulting services, for example on business management issues or questions relating to store or product range design.
The selection and evaluation of products is another important part of the association's work. The products on offer must meet the highest standards in terms of environmental compatibility, eco-balance and healthy living. Greenwashing" is taboo – only products that meet the strict ÖkoPlus criteria are included in the range.

North German Center for Sustainable Building
At a regional level, we co-founded the „Sustainable Building Network“ in 2008 and played a key role in the creation of the „North German Center for Sustainable Building“ right next to the Biber. This lighthouse project was inaugurated in 2015 and is a place for demonstration, information and advice for the interested public, those interested in construction and renovation and specialists. It offers space for qualifications and further training in the field of sustainable building for skilled tradespeople and planners.
We at Biber were involved in the planning of the center and the construction of the building.
The modern center is the first office building in Germany to be built using straw bale construction and impressively demonstrates the efficiency of straw bale construction.
