Annotations:
Kirchhoff has been working as a painter, sculptor, furniture designer and graphic artist since 1982. As a painter, he works expressively between abstraction and figuration, consistently simplified and intensely colored. As a sculptor often constructive, stele-like with characteristic material structures, yet unpainted natural or expressively colorful. As an object designer, his work is recognizably sustainable and reduced to diagonally divided flat rectangular forms. In the main, the work as a whole is unusual and unique with reduced formal elements and painterly structures. The formal elements are consistently straightforward and exaggerated in color. Overall, Kirchhoff works within an aesthetic concept that can be described as spontaneous and expressive naturalness. This means that the structure and surface of the materials are preserved. The actual artistic meaning is imposed through the form and color treatment and thus achieves its effect. Through the rapid abstraction of the painting style, the painting reaches the limits of ordinariness. This, combined with the rules of archaic design features, creates a work of enduring permanence through extensive translation possibilities. A multi-layered and definitely consistent oeuvre in this so-called spontaneous naturalness.
