Josef Muhle started his haulage company as a sole trader in 1958 and carried out transports for the construction industry in the Bremen area. In the years that followed, Josef Muhle GmbH developed into a forwarding company specializing in national and international transport. Today, more than 50 years later, Paneuropa is an efficient and still owner-managed forwarding and logistics company operating throughout Europe.
In order to adapt to the changing conditions in the transport market and due to the ecological and economic advantages, Paneuropa shifted transports from road to rail from 2002. This area of combined transportation was greatly expanded in the following years. In 2004, Paneuropa took over Rösch Internationale Spedition und Transporte GmbH, a pioneer in the field of combined rail/road transportation. On January 1, 2008, Paneuropa took over the activities of Nielsen & Sörensen Intermodal, based in Hamburg, and was thus able to expand its transport area to include the Scandinavian countries. The establishment of a branch at the Eifeltor intermodal terminal in Cologne on March 1, 2009 enabled further geographical expansion to the Rhine/Ruhr region and the neighboring BeNeLux countries. Since 2002, the Paneuropa Group has grown by an average of more than 20% annually and was able to record further double-digit growth in 2012, despite the still difficult conditions in some areas. The combined transport segment between Germany and Switzerland, Spain and Italy now accounts for more than 75% of total sales. Daily block train services and firmly booked wagon groups as well as more than 100 towing units guarantee the reliable transportation of goods within Europe. The total fleet comprises more than 800 units.
Paneuropa also operates in the field of contract logistics, where project-related supply chain management services are provided for Asian customers in particular.
Today, the company has branches and subsidiaries in Hamburg, Bremen, Cologne, Poznan and Verona, with the central administration based at the company's headquarters in Vechta. This successful development is guaranteed by the use of state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly technology in the vehicle fleet, warehousing and handling facilities and in data processing, as well as the motivated, competent employees in all business areas, who pursue the Paneuropa philosophy with absolute consistency and are committed to the high quality standards of the customers.
