In addition to the eighth-generation Passat in Variant, saloon, Alltrack and GTE versions, the Arteon and Arteon Shooting Brake are also produced at the Volkswagen plant in Emden in East Frisia, which is also home to the Volkswagen Group's most important port. It is the third largest automobile transshipment port in Europe and acts as a central hub for the import and export of new vehicles.
Since November 2018, the site on the North Sea coast has been preparing for the biggest transformation process in the plant's history. The first new construction and conversion projects have been underway since spring 2020 so that the ID.4 can be produced in Emden from 2022 and the four-door all-electric Volkswagen "Aero B" from 2023. At the same time, production of the Passat saloon and estate models, as well as the Arteon and Arteon Shooting Brake, will continue for a few more years. After that, Emden will become a purely electric plant.
